16 lip 2021 · The 2021 consolidated guidelines on HIV are an important step in supporting the goals of universal access to ARV drugs for preventing and treating HIV and ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic as a major public health threat by 2030.
Globally, 39.9 million [36.1–44.6 million] people were living with HIV at the end of 2023. An estimated 0.6% [0.6-0.7%] of adults aged 15–49 years worldwide are living with HIV, although the burden of the epidemic continues to vary considerably between countries and regions.
The global HIV epidemic claimed 68% fewer lives in 2021 since its peak in 2004. And fewer people became newly infected with HIV than in any year since 1990. HIV continues to be a major global public health issue, having claimed 40.1 million [33.6–48.6 million] lives so far.

The Strategy sets out evidence-based priority actions and bold targets to get every country and every community on-track to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
