22 gru 2007 · Some of you may have noticed that I tend to carry a K&M match safe a lot in the field. It always has matches and striker, and a small ceramic rod for edge touch up if I need it.
12 gru 2022 · The K&M has more history though. For a purely functional metal match safe, these days I would probably take the Exotac XL. It has no compass, but it does have a striker pad on the inside, which is helpful as strike-anywhere matches are now mostly displaced by safety matches.
So the details and features are really what set the two apart. The K&M has the compass, the Exotac floats, the K&M has a non-threaded cap and double o-rings, the Exotac is threaded and uses one 0-ring.
22 kwi 2014 · I was amazed at how lightweight it is. The cap is not threaded but held on by the o-ring seal. It also comes with a rubber cap to protect the compass. The compass works very well, turns to north smoothly and fairly quick. This surprised me as the majority of compasses this size seem to struggle in finding their way in my limited experience.
