What does John 3:13 mean? The term "Son of Man" is a name Jesus often used 'for Himself. He will refer to Himself using this title several times in the Gospels. Virtually all Jewish people of that era would have recognized the phrase. It connects Jesus to Old Testament prophecy (Daniel 7:13–14).
John 3:13 Explanation. John 3:13 originates from a conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council. In this verse, Jesus emphasizes His unique authority and origin by stating that no one has ascended into heaven except for He who descended from heaven, referring to Himself as the Son of Man.
In John 3:13, the Lord Jesus was giving more explanation to Nicodemus in response to his question of how a man can be born again. He had told him in the earlier verses of John 3 of a man's inability to enter into the kingdom of God without being born again I.e. by water and Spirit.
John 3:13. “And no other than I can reveal to you heavenly things.” This is what Jesus means, if we rightly take His words, not an assertion of His divinity as the first of the heavenly things (Hengstenberg), which would make the negative form of expression quite inexplicable.
