24 cze 2019 · Jean Hagen decided to leave the show. At the beginning of the fourth season, the title changed to The Danny Thomas Show. Thomas and producer Sheldon Leonard were trying to decide how to explain Hagen’s absence. Divorce was not acceptable and filling the same role with another actress didn’t seem like a good option either.
Jean Hagen originally played Danny’s wife, Margaret, but when Hagen decided to leave the show in 1956 (her character was said to have died), she was replaced by Marjorie Lord as Danny’s new wife, Kathy (nicknamed ‘Clancy’), a widow he had met and married after his first wife’s death.
At the end of the third season, Jean Hagen, Danny's onscreen wife, quit, so Williams became a widower. He was single for a year before marrying nurse Kathy O'Hara.
