5 lut 2024 · This study is a scoping review of the literature that addresses (a) the messages communicated regarding HIV from an Islamic perspective, (b) the approaches Muslims adopt to comprehend and treat people living with HIV, and (c) roles of Islam and religious leaders.
Early in the HIV/AIDS epidemic, most predominantly Muslim countries regarded HIV as a disease associated with sexual promiscuity, homosexuality, and drug and alcohol use—behaviours forbidden by Islam. Home to more than 1·6 billion Muslims, the Islamic world was widely believed to be somehow protected against HIV/AIDS.
These contemporary issues require Islamic solutions that are entrenched in Qur’an, Hadith and Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh). Is HIV/AIDS considered a Mardh (sickness) in Islam? Is an HIV/AIDS positive person a Maridh (a sick person)? In Islam, is it permissible to be tested for HIV/AIDS?
