2 lip 2020 · We can recap James so far as: a believer should stand confidently (chap. 1), serve compassionately (chap. 2), and speak carefully (chap. 3). The believer should be what God wants them to be, do what God wants them to do, and speak as God wants them to speak.
James 3:13-18 is like many other texts in the NT that describe the Christian’s relationship to the world. Here we are confronted with the unmistakable and decisive contrast between what this world prizes and approves and what followers of Jesus prize and approve.
Now in James 3:13-18, James argues that true faith lives by God’s wisdom instead of secular, worldly wisdom. He describes how God’s wisdom is from above (3:17) and how worldly wisdom is earthly, natural, and demonic (3:15).

He asks (3:13a), “Who among you is wise and understanding?” Perhaps some of the self-appointed teachers were thinking, “I’m glad that you recognize my talents!”
