I always advise visiting friends not to bother with the Helsinki Card as you have to be a voracious museum-goer to make it worthwhile. There is a much cheaper alternative for transport, the 'day ticket' (formerly called Tourist Ticket, neither of which is a really catchy name).
Whether it's a good value for money depends entirely on your plans. What places you will visit, how much you'd normally pay, do those places belong to the Helsinki Card program. If the Helsinki Card costs 54€ but the travel card 12€, you're paying 42€ for the attractions and sightseeing.
