Something I do which seems to work is to open an Apple app (notes, weather etc.) hold down the sleep/ wake button until slide to power off appears then hold the home button until the screen clears. This works when my iPad's home button plays up.

20 lip 2015 · If you can't access Settings because your home button is gone/does not work, use a notification from the lock screen to open a program on the iPod, then ask Siri to turn on Settings. From there you can then turn on Assistive Touch and use that as your home button.

22 lis 2023 · I recently picked up a iPod touch 4g and the home button is finicky sometimes it works sometimes you have to push it down hard and sometimes it doesn't work at all. I want to use it but I don't want to take it apart incase of damage any help?
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Home Button. Click Speed: Choose the speed required to double-click or triple-click the button—Default, Slow, or Slowest. Press and Hold to Speak: Choose whether Siri responds when you press and hold the button. On iPod touch, adjust accessibility settings for the Home button.
