If they are a large enough company or happen to do interstate moves, check to see there DOT# or MC#. It will give you a background on the type of insurance, authority, and complaints the company has received. Another place to check would be the BBB, to see what type of complaints have been filed. Look to the state moving organization.

They get enough bad reviews, form a new business, hire a fake review company, and totally saturate BBB and Consumer Affairs with 5 star fake reviews. When you're googling them they look really good at first glance.

Type his name + moving into Google. Allied van lines is a reputable carrier. They have many people who knock off their name.
My SO works for a franchised moving company and is the one the BBB will contact when someone files a complaint with the BBB. She will answer the phone and verify the complaint and that they are working with the person to resolve the issue.
