For the front, the Apple Smart Cover is great. Be careful buying from ebay because there are a lot of knockoffs that look similar but aren't the real thing, and there are reviews where they fall apart. Foro the back, I have this case by Khomo. Cheap, thin, and it has a nice rubberized texture.

The North Face Surge II Backpack is the best backpack I have ever owned. Amazon Link. It has a generously padded laptop compartment with a separate outside zipper and a neoprene pouch that fits an iPad inside. Lots of other pockets as well. Typical quality North Face construction.
Boundary Supply Errant has two laptop compartments that are perfect for this. I use a 2014 13” MacBook Pro and a 2019 12.9” iPad Pro w/ the Apple keyboard case. Fits great, and there is storage for cables.
