Smart Parts no longer exists, technically. But it has three successor entities: GoG, Shocker Paintball, and DLX (Luxe). GoG makes the eNMEy, which is a mech version of the Ion. DYE bought or licensed some of the old Smart Parts intellectual property. Their current entry level electro, the Rize CZR, is the present day Ion.
To get the most out of the gun you must upgrade just about everything inside, but its well worth it. I use this gun every time I play! This review has been rated:

Right now, I have 2 CO2 tanks, but from reading forums, it sounds like HPA is the way to go. My question is if CO2 is...
My ion would have issues daily whereas my planet eclipse hasn’t had a single issue in 8 years of weekly use. So while they are still viable, I would in no way recommend using them unless you play very infrequently.
I restored an ion xe over last spring to get me through a stressful semester. Parts were easy to find except for the solenoid armature, banjo fittings and an on off button that didn't suck. There is an Ion FB group that sells everything you could possibly need for both cosmetics and performance.
