21 lut 2024 · Illicium simonsii is a plant I discovered last year in a tucked away corner of Kew Gardens, nestled in the woodland glade surrounded by Rhododendron, Hydrangea aspera and a beautiful Liriodendron chinense.
Its attractions are manifold. Its habit is a neat narrow cone or pyramid, with a tapering tip, at least in full sun (in shade it is rounder), with dark green foliage that has a bluish sheen to it, and its masses of cream to yellow flowers, produced mainly in spring, release a strong fragrance.

16 mar 2014 · Hailing from southern Sichuan, northern Yunnan and Burma Illicium simonsii grows slowly to form a small, evergreen, pyramid-shaped shrub. Every year it is covered with clusters of starry, lightly fragranced flowers in February and March.
