To align with its mission to reduce the global burden of raised blood pressure (BP), the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) has developed worldwide practice guidelines for the management of hypertension in adults, aged 18 years and older.
The guideline provides the basis for deciding whether to initiate treatment with monotherapy, dual therapy or single-pill combinations, as well as guidance for countries selecting medicines and algorithms for hypertension control for their national guidelines for hypertension management.
Hypertensive emergencies are defined by accelerated and severe elevations of blood pressure associated with acute organ injury and have high morbidity. While no uniform threshold exists, blood pressure elevations typically exceed 180 mm Hg systolic and/ or 110 mm Hg diastolic.
