Hydrangea macrophylla 'Nikko Blue' is a bushy, deciduous shrub which from July to August bears masses of coral blue flowers. These extremely showy flowers are also attractive to wildlife including bees, butterflies and birds.
A vigorous deciduous shrub to 1.5m high with broadly oval, serrated green leaves. Produces neat, dome-shaped clusters of star shaped flowers with pointed petals, from mid summer to early autumn. Colours vary depending on the pH of the soil, but acid soils produce a striking bright blue flower.
Large, 4-5 in., rounded panicles cover this mophead-type hydrangea from mid to late summer, beginning in June (much earlier than its contemporaries). The blooms are also long lived and give an extended performance in the garden.
