The former hangout of late resident Hunter S. Thompson is an eclectic spot festooned with Gonzo memorabilia and historical and Western bric-a-brac; it’s the ideal spot for a mid-bike ride margarita or après bite. The pub-style menu includes shrimp ceviche, enchiladas, burgers, pork green chile, and steak.
Thompson was known to frequent Woody Creek Tavern and was well-loved by many locals despite his occasional drunken antics. He is featured prominently in the various photographs that adorn the walls of the tavern.

27 maj 2024 · Back in the ‘90s, when writer Hunter S. Thompson held court at the Woody Creek Tavern just outside of Aspen, he’d often rail against the “greedheads.” I grew up in Aspen, and sometimes my dad took me there to look at all the dollar bills on the wall.
