A. phagocytophilum causes human granulocytotropic anaplasmosis (HGA), previously known as human granulocytotropic ehrlichiosis (HGE). Anaplasma phagocytophilum is transmitted by Ixodes scapularis, which also transmits agents that cause Lyme disease and babesiosis.
