The TI-85 graphing calculator uses menus for selection of specific functions. The items on the menus are displayed across the bottom of the screen. Several menus can be displayed at the same time. Press the function key directly below the item on the menu you wish to choose.

The tangent of a square root function can be found by differentiating it and substituting in the x-coordinate to find the gradient. This can be done by writing the function inside the square root as raised to the power of one half. This can then be differentiated using the chain rule.
The tangent line is drawn; the X value and the tangent-line equation are displayed on the graph. Consider repeating this activity with the mode set to the number of decimal places desired. The first screen shows four decimal places.
