MLA format follows the author-page method of in-text citation. This means that the author's last name and the page number (s) from which the quotation or paraphrase is taken must appear in the text, and a complete reference should appear on your Works Cited page.
Often [sic] appears as a gentle reminder, but some usage can be conceived as biting commentary. Use with caution and our guidance. It's not just for pointing out errors.
One uses [sic] to assure your readers that you were aware of the error in the quoted source, and it wasn't introduced by your mistake.
