If they are no longer in your Yahoo account online, you would need to continue to work with Yahoo for assistance on this. Also, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > [your Yahoo account] > Account > Advanced > under 'Deleted Messages' > is it set to 'Never'?
If you want to temporarily stop sending and receiving email from an account on your iPhone, you can turn it off in Settings. You can easily turn it back on at any time. Go to Settings > Apps > Mail. Tap Mail Accounts, tap the email account you want to turn off, then do one of the following:
