There’s a utility developed by McAfee that will remove the software from your computer. Here’s a link to it. It’s called MCPR. I’ve uninstalled various McAfee products dozens of times without issue. You’ll be fine, you shouldn’t encounter any errors.

Repeat this for all McAfee apps: Control Panel > Programs and features > McAfee Security > Uninstall > Select McAfee Security and Remove all files… > Uninstall > Uninstall > Restart Now. Download the MCPR tool from: https://download.mcafee.com/molbin/iss-loc/SupportTools/MCPR/MCPR.exe. Close all other programs. Run the tool.
Type McAfee into the search box, and then go to town with removing it all. Once it is uninstalled, the Windows Defender should automatically turn back on, Defender is the free antivirus built into Windows.
Do you have an uninstall file in the applications folder? Otherwise, do a two finger click on McAfee in the applications folder, click “Show Package Contents” and see if there’s an uninstaller in there.
