Quotes (MLA Handbook section 1.3.2): When using a quote that extends more than four lines (using 1” margins) you must use block quote format: indent 1⁄2 inch from the left margin, double-space, do not use quotation marks, and place the citation after the period. Fig. 1.

Quoting: Place quotation marks around words and sentences quoted directly. Include the author’s last name and page number in parentheses at the end of the quotation.
Double-space the entire research paper, including quotations, notes, and the list of works cited. Indent the first line of a paragraph half an inch from the left margin. Indent set-off quotations half an inch as well (for examples, see 76–80 in the MLA Handbook).
