Most lily species are quite easy to raise from seed. With most, you don’t need to use a glasshouse. The only “special equipment” needed is patience: though with special care a few species will flower in their first year from sowing, most take two or three years – a few even take up to seven. Dig a hole that is twice the size of the bulb and place the bulb in the hole. Cover the bulb with soil and water thoroughly.
Lily seeds will take five to six weeks to germinate. You should not expect your lilies to flower in the first year of growth. If you want to get flowers earlier, then treat them as annuals and remove them from their pots when they are a few inches tall.
