The surface area of a 3D shape is a measure of how much area the surfaces of that shape have in total. Shapes that you have to work out the surface area of can fall into one of two categories. – All the faces are flat – e.g. square or rectangle. – Some/all of the faces are curved – e.g. cone or sphere.
