PACE FACTOR – a value determined by dividing the measured or known length of a line by the mean number of paces taken to walk or traverse the line. PACED DISTANCE – the length of a course as determined by pacing.
To measure the average length of your normal pace (the pace factor, or PF): take 100 normal steps on horizontal ground, starting with the toes of your back foot from a well-marked point, A, and walking along a straight line.
Pace Factor (P.F.) is defined as the ratio of the measured distance in the number of paces made by an individual to cover the measured distance or: In determining the P.F., the measured distance is at least 200 m or more.
This document provides instructions for determining one's pace factor, or the average distance covered with each pace, through surveying techniques. It involves measuring level and sloping courses of known distances and counting the number of paces it takes to walk the courses over five trials.
