  1. 6 cze 2020 · Post-thyroidectomy hypocalcaemia is mostly caused by surgical hypoparathyroidism, i.e., insufficient circulating parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels ( 1 ). Injured parathyroid function is due to reduced functional parathyroid parenchyma resulting from disruption of parathyroid blood supply, direct injury, or inadvertent parathyroidectomy ( 3, 6 ).

  2. 26 lis 2024 · Research has shown that measuring parathyroid hormone 20 min after thyroidectomy provides an accurate and reliable method for predicting clinically significant hypocalcemia.

  3. Keywords: parathyroid hormone, hypocalcemia, thyroid cancer, incidental parathyroidectomy, parathyroid hormone, female, thyroidectomy, lobectomy, central neck dissection, lymph node. 1. Introduction. Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine tumor and its incidence has significantly increased over the last three decades . Although the ...

  4. Background: Hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy is a frequent complication that can be predicted and best managed by the postoperative measurement of parathyroid hormone levels. Methods: This study included consecutive patients who underwent total thyroidectomy between 2017 and 2022. Hypocalcemia was defined as serum calcium <8.0 mg/dL and hypoparathyroidism as parathyroid hormone <15 pg/mL.

  5. Objective: Thyroidectomy impairs parathyroid function, even if it does not necessarily lead to postoperative clinical hypocalcemia. This study was prospective and evaluated the parathyroid hormone (PTH) function in nonclinically symptomatic patients after total thyroidectomy performed by two different techniques.

  6. 4 cze 2021 · Hospitalization and discharge dates, pre-and postoperative calcium levels, postoperative 4–6-h parathormone levels, and follow-up calcium and parathyroid hormone values (together with...

  7. 21 kwi 2021 · Serum ion is an effective predictor of short-term postoperative parathyroid function return to normal. The combination of serum Mg and P concentrations has good sensitivity and specificity in predicting short-term parathyroid function recovery after thyroidectomy.
