Only a big pile of meat (or rose hips) truly lets you plan. That has to be invaluable, in both the mental game and organizing your future strategy. So Clay, Jordan, and Roland all won at planning -- perhaps Clay most of all because he had the least amount of meat and therefore had much less margin for error.
The most consistent factor to winning is food. The Bairds won because they harvested limpets in massive amounts while the Whipples couldnt get enough food. I think the Whipples were better at living off the land, and if Alone was not such an artificial environment they would have won.
