Ruby City is a ghost town in Owyhee County, Idaho, United States. It was located along Jordan Creek about a mile below Silver City. [1] Ruby City was a mining town settled in November 1863. [2] The town was the first county seat of Owyhee County and was born to serve the rich mines in the vicinity. [1]
Ruby City History. As the initial season of placer mining in the Owyhee Mountains was advancing into fall of 1863, lode discoveries were being made on the slopes of War Eagle Mountain. The first was the Oro Fino, followed shortly by the Morning Star.
Ruby City was the county seat of Owyhee County from 1863 to 1867. When Silver City mines grew, most of Ruby's buildings were moved there. We had to look hard to find these ruins on the hillside.

There are no markers. traveler that this is Ruby City. In all probability, observer might drive through the site of the town.
