This hike features wonderful views of Mount Washington and the White Mountains. The terrain starts easy on the first mile of the trail, but quickly becomes moderately to strenuously steep. When you have hiked almost 2 miles, you will pass through Mount Surprise.

The shortest route up to the summit is up the Carter-Moriah trail, which goes over Mount Surprise (2,194') before reaching Mount Moriah.

Mount Moriah via Stony Brook Trail. The first 2 miles of this hike is a fairly flat walk in the woods along a beautiful brook. After 2 miles, the terrain steepens and looks more like classic White Mountain terrain by mile 3 (steep and rocky).
Although a great deal smaller than the neighboring Carters, Mt. Moriah stands reasonably alone and provides spectacular views in most directions from its summit. Steep ledges on its northwest ridge are crossed by the Carter-Moriah Trail and make for a rugged hike.
