The Safe Drinking Water Act defines a Public Water Supply (PWS) as a system that provides water via piping or other constructed conveyances to the public for human consumption. DEQ’s Public Water Supply program currently oversees more than 1,300 active PWS systems.

Each year, ORWA conducts about 140 operator training classes, totaling more than 1,200 classroom hrs. We conduct Operator Certification Training, and Laboratory Operator Certification for water and wastewater professionals, from entry level beginners to more advanced professionals.
In some areas, however, there are health concerns, such as nitrate, fluoride, or arsenic concentrations above the drinking water standard. The more common problems, like hardness or high concentrations of iron, sulfate, or chloride are not health concerns.
