Heroes III is not only the best HoMM game, but one of the best videogames ever made. It's crazy good. Heroes IV is a super exotic entry in the series, with heavy changes, reworked factions, skills and spells, and odd but interesting mechanics.

Heroes 3 is the best designed HoMM game. Nice graphics, which hold up to this day. Most content (factions, creatures, spells, heroes), for the most part fine mechanics.
