A large-bodied, small-headed, slaty-gray gamebird perfectly lined with rows of hundreds of white spots. The distinctive head sports a strange bone-like casque and naked warty facial skin, which is colored white, blue, or red depending on geographic location. 8 lis 2023 · The Helmeted Guineafowl is a distinctive and easily recognisable species. It has an unusual body-shape which is laterally compressed with a disproportionately small head. Adults have a large, horn-like, bony casque or ‘helmet’ on the head, and long, pendulous blue wattles with red tips on the sides of the face.
One can identify the Helmeted Guineafowl by its bare head adorned with a bony knob, which can be dull yellow or reddish, and the surrounding skin may exhibit red, blue, or black colors. The wings and tail are short, contributing to a rather compact silhouette.

The helmeted guineafowl is a large, 53 to 58 cm (21 to 23 in) bird with a round body and small head. They weigh about 1.3 kg (2.9 lb). The body plumage is gray-black speckled with white.
