The first book I recommend to my students is 'The Greek and Persian Wars 499–386 BC' by Philip de Souza (Osprey). It is well written, with numerous well-made maps and a good political overview of the campaigns and the political outcomes.

Several of the most famous and significant battles in history were fought during the Wars, these were at Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis, and Plataea, all of which would become legendary.
