22 gru 2022 · Georges Braque (1882-1963) first adopted Fauvism, an art movement in the first decade of the 20th century that revolved around bright and unnatural colors. He later produced some of the most famous Cubist paintings in history and became an important member of this important art movement as well.
Braque's paintings made over the summer of 1908 at l'Estaque are considered the first Cubist paintings. After being rejected by the Salon d'Automne, they were fortunately exhibited that fall at Daniel-Henri Kahnweiler's Paris gallery.
In contrast to Picasso, who continuously reinvented his style of painting, producing both representational and cubist images, and incorporating surrealist ideas into his work, Braque continued in the Cubist style, producing luminous, other-worldly still life and figure compositions.
