Put ATT Gateway in full passthrough mode and run it essentially as a modem. I think this is likely the best option to keep latency low and allow full use of the ASUS mesh network, my DNS settings, Ad guard, firewall, etc.
You could also just lease a block of 8 Static IPs for $15/month and configure the public IP block in the Public Subnet section of your AT&T router and assign an IP to your gateway...and avoid all the extra work and dealing with double-NAT and using the piss-poor IP Passthrough config.
RG = routing gateway. You can think of this as the most "upstream" router. Usually it's the modem/router combo provided by AT&T. ONT = optical network terminal. The device that converts the signal from light sent over fiber to electrical signal used in ethernet.
