My wife and i bought a camper and have noticed that it's near impossible to get weekend reservations on short (1-2 week) notice at state parks. When we do book way in advance, though, we notice that there's plenty of spots available at the parks that are supposedly all-reserved.

It's true you have to make an account to use Reserve America site, but that's to be expected as you need a credit card to pay and an email address for them to confirm the reservation. Also, Texas State Parks don't require reservations.
