quick reference online : www.fpnotebook.com - fast, free. no login, no bs. that tab is open everyday on every computer I've worked on for past 7 years. These were my carry-in-pocket books: - when on outpatient: Residents Guide to Ambulatory Care 7th+ edition - this is the key book nobody tells you about.
I have no experience with Family Practice Notebook, but in general I prefer American Family Physician to UpToDate. I find UTD gets pretty far into the weeds, and AFP is more focused on bread-and-butter pathophys, and reasonable next steps and treatments.
The journal is free to members of AAFP but also free to everyone except the most recent 12 months. I would just use fpnotebook.com! It has all you will need and it much faster to look up things than a book.
