Sets. set A is a subset of B, written A ⊂ B or B ⊃ A, if every element of A is also an element of B. Trivially, every set is a subset of itself. A set B is a proper subset of a set A if B ⊂ A but B 6= A. If A is not a subset of B, we write A 6⊂B.
The numbers that are in both set A and set B are in the intersection of the two sets. The numbers 1, 5, 7, 11 are not in set A or set B so are outside the two circles. Venn diagrams can also be used to show the number of members in a set.
