  1. Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Poster. All covered employers are required to display and keep displayed a poster prepared by the U.S. Department of Labor summarizing the major provisions of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and telling employees how to file a complaint.

  2. Employers can use the following forms to provide the notices required under the FMLA. General Notice, the FMLA poster – satisfies the requirement that every covered employer display or post an informative general notice about the FMLA.

  3. All covered employers must display a general notice about the FMLA, the FMLA poster. If a covered employer has any eligible employees, the employer must also provide each employee individually with a general notice containing the same information about the FMLA as contained in the FMLA poster.

  5. Once an employer becomes aware that an employee’s need for leave is for a reason that may qualify under the FMLA, the employer must notify the employee if he or she is eligible for FMLA leave and, if eligible, must also provide a notice of rights and responsibilities under the FMLA.

  6. Covered employers must post this general notice even if no employees are eligible for FMLA leave. The poster and its text must be large enough to be easily read and contain fully legible text. Electronic posting is permitted as long as it otherwise meets all the posting requirements.
