If you are looking for a casual playthrough without modding and without harder endgame archievements, this is the better version. There is also the original PC version on steam which has a bit more side-content. But it is using the MIDI Version of the soundtrack which is awful.
14 kwi 2020 · Original is fully moddable, so you can upgrade backgrounds, textures, etc... to higher resolution with fan mods, etc. Remaster is still being decoded so that some of those mods will work. Plus the remaster took away some things such as full motion support.
If you have the patience to install all the graphics mods (or alternatively, pay a $2 or $3 donation to get an installer to do it all for you,) and if you can find the Roses and Wine mod, then I think the Steam port of the original is the best version.
The main differences i know of are: the original has the chocobo world mini game in the files and you can play it which is neat, but it was never really a thing outside of Japan pn the psx, so I somewhat don't consider it original 8 content, but it also has a terrible achievement list.
