The FIDE Rating system is a numerical system in which fractional scores are converted to rating differences and vice versa. Its function is to produce measurement information of the best statistical quality.

1. Rate of Play. 1.1. For a game to be rated each player must at the start of the tournament have the following minimum periods in which to complete all the moves, assuming the game lasts 60 moves. Where at least one of the players in the game has a rating of 2400 or higher, each player must have a minimum of 120 minutes.
The skill level of a chess player is numerically represented by the FIDE rating system. It is an international standard that enables players to compare their abilities. A player's rating is determined by how well they perform against other rated players in rated competitions.
A new set of regulations covering FIDE titles, rapid and blitz games and ratings will come into force on January 1, 2022. Worked out by FIDE Qualification Commission (QC), the new regulations came out after a lengthy period of consultation with other Commissions, federations, individual players, and chess supporters worldwide.
