Identifying the foetal genitalia is one aspect of interpreting ultrasound images that allows parents to learn their baby’s gender. By looking for certain markers, such as labia or scrotum formation, professionals can accurately identify whether your baby is male or female.

Ultrasound imaging performed in the 11 th and 12 th weeks of pregnancy for fetal gender identification identified the fetus either as a girl, a boy, or as a “gender not assigned.” Frequency, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and accuracy of the gender identification was assessed using SPSS version 20.
1. Hamburger or turtle method. If there’s a clear ‘between the legs’ image, you may be able to spot either a hamburger or turtle (really!). It’s pretty much what an ultrasound tech is looking for if they’re checking bub’s gender. A ‘hamburger’ sign will usually mean it’s a girl.
