The Minecraft and Fabric Loader versions can be selected in the installer, this download works for every version we support. Make sure to follow the installation instructions! For the fabric loader, its just in the insataller at fabricmc.net. For the Fabric API, there is a project called Legacy Fabric, that has ported the API to 1.8.9
Download Fabric API for the desired Minecraft version from this page and put the jar file in the mods folder like any ordinary mod; More information and full installation instructions can be found on the Fabric website and support is available through the Fabric discord server. This is SEPARATE from the Fabric loader! You need both for most mods!
Thought I'd share what I know about Legacy Fabric a way to install Fabric on 1.8.9 (1.7.10 and 1.12.2 are possible but only for Developers at the moment but 1.8.9 has a small handful of mods currently).
This mod implements ViaVersion on Fabric servers and clients, allowing you to connect to different Minecraft versions. It can be installed on Legacy Fabric 1.8.9, and Fabric 1.14.4-1.20.1. If you are using the latest Minecraft version and care about the gameplay being more enjoyable/functional, you may want to check ViaFabricPlus out.
You can download the Fabric Installer from the Fabric Website. If you use Windows, download the .exe version ( Download For Windows ), because it doesn't require Java to be installed on your system. It instead uses Java that came with the official launcher.
