The Grumman F7F Tigercat is a heavy fighter aircraft that served with the United States Navy (USN) and United States Marine Corps (USMC) from late in World War II until 1954. It was the first twin-engine fighter to be deployed by the USN.

Crashed F7F after belly landing. Tigercat was the first twin-engined fighter aircraft design to enter service with the United States Navy. Designed for the new Midway-class aircraft carriers, the aircraft were too large to operate from earlier decks.
Photo by Steve Kraus. The Tigercat narrowly missed WWII but operated successfully as a night fighter and on night ground interdiction missions during the Korean War. Phased out of Marine service by 1954, several were sold for aerial firefighting. Of the 364 F7Fs built, fewer than 10 remain. This one became N7627C with Cal-Nat in 1962.
