The Northrop F-5 is a family of supersonic light fighter aircraft initially designed as a privately funded project in the late 1950s by Northrop Corporation. There are two main models: the original F-5A and F-5B Freedom Fighter variants, and the extensively updated F-5E and F-5F Tiger II variants.
Its light weight, low endurance and small radar and armament limited its ability to compete against higher end jets, but for the vast majority of combat missions many operators have seen the F-5 as the most cost effective option.
The F-5F is a dual-seat version, twin-engine, tactical fighter commonly used for training and adversary combat tactics. The aircraft can ably serve in an aggressor training role with simulation capability of current threat aircraft in fighter combat mode.
