Elkhart County Highway is responsible for all roads, bridges, and structures within Elkhart County which are not state highways and which are not within the corporate limits of a city or town.
Highway. Elkhart County Highway maintains approximately 1,150 miles of roadway outside of incorporated cities and towns within the County, and all bridge structures inside and outside cities and towns that are not located on state highways.
Permit Process. All work planned within street right-of-way requires a permit in the form of a “Road Impact Agreement” to be developed and established by the Elkhart County Highway Department. This work includes installation of commercial or residential driveways, utility work, road work, or anything classified as special use.
