The Dr. John Archer Library building was officially opened in 1967 and dedicated in 1999. It was designed by Minoru Yamasaki, who also designed the other initial buildings on campus and advised on the Wascana Centre Authority in this capacity. The library was given more aesthetic treatment by Yamasaki than other buildings. [1] It was originally planned to house 200,000 volumes.

The Dr. John Archer Library and Archives on the University of Regina campus houses monograph and journal collections of some 2.6 million items.. The Library holds over a million books, pamphlets and journals, approximately 600,000 government publications, over a million items in microform, as well as a growing collection of recordings and materials in other media.
The Archer Library’s website is one of the most visited University sites, with between 12,000 and 15,000 unique visitors per month at peak times of the academic year.
