Doug narrates every episode, and writes his experiences in his journal. His alter ego, Quailman, was inspired by Jinkins' and Roberts' home movies as children, posing as superheroes. Douglas Yancey "Doug" Funnie is the titular main protagonist of the Nickelodeon-turned-Disney series Doug, and its 1999 Disney film adaptation, Doug's 1st Movie. Doug is 11-years old in the Nickelodeon series and 12 in the Disney media.
