The documentation is a good place to learn more about what the registry is, how it works, and how to use it. Specifically, the section regarding deployment has pointers for more complex use cases than simply running a registry on localhost.
How to use this image. This image only contains Apache httpd with the defaults from upstream. There is no PHP installed, but it should not be hard to extend. On the other hand, if you just want PHP with Apache httpd see the PHP image and look at the -apache tags.
Customize configuration. You can mount your configuration file, or build a new image with it. If you wish to adapt the default configuration, use something like the following to get it from a running nginx container: $ docker run --rm --entrypoint=cat nginx /etc/nginx/nginx.conf > /host/path/nginx.conf.
