Cartomancer - DND 5th Edition. Source: The Book of Many Things. Prerequisite: 4th Level, Spellcasting Feature. You have learned to channel your magic through a deck of cards. You can use a card deck as your spellcasting focus, and you gain the following benefits: Card Tricks.
Early levels that's often the difference between one shotting foes and them getting a turn after. It always feels like a sorcery point well spent. What's interesting to note is that you can use empower multiple times if the spell continually deals damage (like Wall of Fire).
Metamagic lets Sorcerers manipulate and alter spells to fit their needs in creative ways that other casters can’t. Because your magic is so instinctive, you’re effectively able to defy the boundaries of what other casters might think is possible!
It just is what it is. meta is 'to alter or change' which is exactly what metamagics do, change magic. Metamagic refers to an ability to change the way that a spell works. Not to sound like a dick, but it's literally "the ability to twist your spells to suit your needs", to quote your own quote.
