On this date 85 years ago, the new and improved Deaconess Hospital on East Jefferson in Detroit was dedicated. This new main building, designed by Mildner & Eisen, put a new front on the building and saw it expanded to 200 beds. It was razed in the 1990s.
Deaconess Hospital was one of several hospitals built along Detroit's East Jefferson corridor. The first Deaconess Hospital in Detroit was founded by the congregation of the Evangelical Synod of North America, which leased a three-story frame house at what is now 517 Beaufait (199 Beaufait at the time).
